Square of the Djen
Square of the Djen (Darehj Sabban, Borto Drudach, Palace Ward, Calimport). This open courtyard is a large assembly area and common meeting place for many in Palace Ward. Fully paved with green, blue, white, and rose marble in free-form mosaic patterns, the Square stretches up along adjoining byways on the sabban and drudach walls, allowing steps down into the main square. There are 12 steps leading down to the main square from the sabban wall-walk, and benches surround the 60-foot square at the bottom. In general, this is common meeting ground for Calimpanni of all social classes and professions. The square is never empty, and usually has a few mercenaries, jhasins and jhasinas, or amlakkar in it at all times.Each of the sides of the square is paved in one color of marble, and these correspond to a like-marble statue of a genie. The rose marble on the north comprises the Efreeti's Face, the green marble on the east the Dao's Face, the blue marble the Marid's Quarter, and the white marble the Djinni's Face. While the statues have long been targets of abuse and damage and none of the statues have had heads since the Eighth Age, none of the rest of the square is ever disturbed. Unlike every other corner of Calimport, no blood has ever been spilled within the Square of the Djen. None know what could happen if this occurred, but this holds such ingrained superstitious fear in any natives of Calimport, that any who attempt this are dragged out of the square, and torn apart by fearful mobs.
